Hi, I’m Dr Rebekah Shallcross, so lovely to have you here!
I’m a Clinical Psychologist, Researcher and Feminist. I founded The FTC in 2020 to highlight the need to think about mental health through a systemic lens; that means acknowledging the impact that systems of oppression (such as patriarchy, racism and ableism) have upon people’s mental health.
In 2023 I also became a Director of The Psychology Cooperative - a group of therapists and supporters whose aim is to democratize psychology and to provide free and low cost therapy and resources to those who would not ordinarily be able to afford it.
Please have a browse of my website to see what might be helpful to you from 1-1 therapy, our signature group programme or simply come join my IG community and say Hi!
If you are an organisation or professional, come speak to me about bespoke training’s, workshops, therapy or reflective practices to meet your needs.
Whatever your needs, I look forward to working with you!
Welcome!
About the Feminist Therapy Centre
Who am I?
I am a HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist, a chartered member of the British Psychological Society, Researcher and Feminist. I have a specialist interest in the intersections of gender, violence and mental health which includes, but is not limited to domestic violence, sexual violence, sexual health, perinatal mental health and birth trauma. I am also interested in how systems of oppression, such as patriarchy, systemic racism, and anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination impact on mental health. I use social media in order to engage with public communities about both my research and clinical practice using the handle @dr_bekah_shallcross, with the aim of making both research and therapeutic ideas more useful and accessible to all.
My style…
I work integratively, drawing on CBT, and Psychodynamic, Narrative, Systemic and Compassion Focussed models of therapy. I also draw on Feminist Therapy theory and mind/body somatic techniques.
Teaching & Speaking
I speak and provide teaching and training on a wide variety of topics relating to women’s mental health, with a particular interest in opening discussions around how systems of oppression impact upon, and contribute to, mental health difficulties. I also provide expert commentary in the media on the topics I research, the details of which can be found on my Research Gate page
